Position:         Church Musician/Choir Director
 
Location:        Metropolitan United Methodist Church
                       Indian Head, MD
 
Type:              Contract Position
 
Schedule:  Required for the first, third (Children’s Choir), fourth, and fifth Sundays of each month. Rehearsals are to be conducted before the choir performs on Sundays.

Job DescriptionWe are seeking a dedicated Church Musician/Choir Director to lead our choir of 7 members (all aged 30 and above) in hymns and traditional gospel music, and our
children’s choir. The ideal candidate is someone with a passion for church music, capable of reading music, and experienced in conducting small choirs. This position requires flexibility, creativity, and the ability to lead and inspire our choir in preparation for Sunday services.
 
Responsibilities:
• Conduct rehearsals before Sunday services to ensure the choir is prepared.
• Direct the choir during the first, third, fourth, and fifth Sunday services each month.
• Select appropriate hymns and traditional gospel music that align with the themes of
the services and the liturgical calendar.
• Work closely with church leadership to integrate music into worship services effectively.
• Manage and maintain the musical instruments provided (piano, organ, and drums).
 
Qualifications:
• Ability to read music.
• Ability to work with children.
• Experience in choir direction, preferably with small to medium-sized choirs.
• Knowledge and appreciation of hymns and traditional gospel music.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• A commitment to the mission and values of Metropolitan United Methodist Church.
 
Performance Evaluation:
The Church Musician/Choir Director will undergo a yearly performance evaluation to ensure alignment with the church’s musical and spiritual goals.
